BEST AUTOMOTIVE HOOD OR WINDOW LIFT SUPPORT INSTALLATION SERVICE IN WICHITA KS

Automotive Hood Or Window Lift Support Installation

Automotive Hood Or Window Lift Support Installation Service near Wichita KS: To ensure the dependable performance of your hood lift supports, it’s always important to replace them if there are signs of wear and tear on the hinges, connection points, or any twisting that is caused by uneven loading. At A1 Mobile Mechanics Of Wichita, we bring you the world’s largest lift support database so you can easily find the right replacement gas struts or part you need for a complete installation.

Here, we provide step-by-step guidelines for installing hood lift supports.

Hood lift support shocks are energy storage devices that work by means of compressing gas in a cylinder. When they’re closed, energy is stored, and when they’re opened, energy is released. You might think of them as shock absorbers or struts, but this is erroneous. Shocks absorb energy and do not release it.

Almost all vehicles use pneumatic struts to hold up the hood. They’re filled with inert gas that hold structures open. The lift supports store the energy when closed, and when they open, the energy is released. If the hood lift supports are weak or leaking, the hood may slowly close when opened or may slam down unexpectedly.

Keep in mind:

  • Any hood lift support will eventually fail.
  • Hood lift supports will operate more efficiently in warm temperatures than in cold ones.
  • Frequent use can cause failure of a hood lift support.

How it’s done:

  • The vehicle’s hood is opened and supported manually
  • The defective hood lift support shocks are removed
  • The new hood lift support shocks are installed
  • The hood manual support is removed
  • The repair is verified and the hood lift support shocks are tested for proper operation

Our recommendation:

You can extend the life of your hood lift shocks just by keeping them clean. Dirt and debris on the cylinder arm can nick the seal, causing a leak. If you’re experiencing problems with your hood lift support shocks, have one of our expert mechanics replace them.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Hood Lift Support?

  • Hood slams down unexpectedly
  • Hood slowly lowers when lifted

How important is this service?

Automotive Hood Or Window Lift Support Installation Service near Wichita KS: It’s very important that your hood lift support shocks work properly as you don’t want to have your vehicle’s hood come crashing down on you. This is a problem that has happened to more backyard mechanics than we could recall. Have weak or failed hood lift support shocks replaced as soon as you can.

  • Always wear Safety Glasses for eye protection.
  • Use Safety stands whenever a procedure requires you under the vehicle or supports. For the best and easiest results have someone hold the device open for you so that they can raise or lower it as needed.
  • Before removing the old lift support, inspect the end connections and compare them to the units on your vehicle to make sure that they are the same. Also inspect the overall length fully extended to insure you have the correct units
  • Remove the old support from the vehicle by placing a small flat headed screw driver under the U shaped band on the ends of the support. Slowly lift up on the band, and pull the support away from the vehicle and it will release. Be careful as not to pull the U band off all of the way or it will go flying and could hurt you or someone nearby.

To install the new supports install the shaft end first, (this is the skinny end).  Gently place the ball socket over top the ball stud and the give it a good push till it locks on over the ball stud.  Then you will need to grasp the body of the support (the thick steel cylinder) and turn it clockwise one full turn to release the cylinder.  Then turn till the ball socket is on top of the ball stud.  Again gently push it onto the ball stud.  Once both ends are on the ball studs give a gentle tug to make sure that they are securely attached to the vehicle. There is no need to use any tools when installing onto the ball stud, just push gently.

For other types of end fittings please contact us for installation information, or go to our website.

Lift Supports need to be installed fully extended. To compress a lift support you need leverage, and in most cases you just can’t compress them unless they are on the vehicle. If you have the trunk or hatch all of the way open and both old supports are unbolted and the support will not fit then it is possibly the wrong one. Let us know, we’re here to solve your problems not create additional ones like bent hinges.

TIPS

Automotive Lift Support installation tips

Automotive Hood Or Window Lift Support Installation Service near Wichita KS: Most automotive applications now feature two, four or more gas charged lift supports and demand continues to grow.

  • Compatibility

Nominally priced yet technologically superior to other lifts on the market, only AMS has unique features to ensure safe reliable operation, again and again. AMS offers the largest selection of patented connector systems.

  • Coverage

AMS is committed to offering the industry’s most comprehensive lineup of lift supports. We currently include coverage for nearly 100% of all automotive applications. OE applications in which the identical AMS lift supports are utilized include Chevrolet Equinox, Chrysler Voyage, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Lexus RX350, Wichita Navigator, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Nissan Pathfinder, Pontiac Torrent, Suzuki XL7, and Toyota Tundra just to name a few.

  • Development and Production

During the initial design phase, each application is evaluated and tested for the following: strength, corrosion, assembly methodology, and ease of installation. The testing is done using specifically designed machines including thermal chambers capable of testing from -40°F to 180°F degrees, a full-size drive-in thermal chamber, a salt spray chamber, Instron test stands with thermal chambers, a precision prep saw with micro hardness measuring capabilities and a vibration test stand.

  • Quality

You can be assured that when you choose an AMS gas charged lift support you get the industry’s highest quality in terms of long-lasting performance, smooth operation, functional safety, and ease of installation. Our lift supports feature the latest technology and most innovative features. For example, AMS’ exclusive patented Temperature Compensation Module valve remains closed at temperatures above 40°F and prevents expansion of a portion of the compressed gas within the spring. When the temperature drops below 20°F, the TCM valve opens to allow expansion of gas within the tube. This valve makes it possible for the extended force to increase at the TCM valve opening temperature (TCM valves are not required or included in all lift supports).

  • Testing

After assembly, each AMS gas charged lift support is tested in four different positions during compression and extension to measure speed and force. Each lift is then subjected to two overload tests to assure structural integrity and safety.

COST

How Much Does It Cost to Install an Automotive Hood Or Window Lift?

Automotive Hood Or Window Lift Support Installation Service near Wichita KS:

Average range: $35,000 – $45,000

Having a home elevator can be life changing for many people. Elevators can help reduce the strain of carrying items up and down stairs, assist those with mobility issues, and help aging homeowners stay in their own homes as issues such as arthritis arise.

There are three types of elevators that can be added to the home, with two versions available for retrofitting an existing home. They can be built into the home to appear decorative and concealed, or they can be added right out in the open, installed solely for functional purposes.

The two most common types of elevators installed in the home today are hydraulic and pneumatic. Hydraulic elevators have an average cost of $20,000 – $30,000 for the elevator itself, with installation pushing the total price to around $40,000 – $50,000 or higher. Pneumatic elevators are easier to install with a total cost of about $35,000 – $50,000 on average.

Automotive Hood Or Window Lift Support Installation Prices

  • National average cost $40,000
  • Average range $35,000-$45,000
  • Minimum cost $30,000
  • Maximum cost $50,000

Cable-driven Window Lift Installation

In a cable-driven elevator, a cable is wound around a turning drum, which raises and lowers the elevator. This drum requires significant space in addition to the shaft but has a relatively small footprint overall. It is most commonly used in new builds but can be added to existing homes easily. They are similar to the elevators you find in office buildings, hotels, and other commercial buildings, requiring a mechanical room to operate. They cost between $15,000 and $30,000 on average.

Chain-driven Window Lift Installation

In chain-drive elevators, a counterweight attached to a chain travels in the opposite direction of the elevator car. This requires the shaft to be much larger, although it does not need a separate motor room like the cable-driven elevator does, saving space in the home. They function similarly to cable-driven elevators, but the chains are stronger than cables. This elevator is more durable and longer-lasting, requiring less maintenance and fewer repairs. On average, a chain-driven elevator costs $20,000 to $50,000.

Cost of Hydraulic Lift for Home

With a hydraulic elevator, you have a piston that moves inside a cylinder to power the elevator and control its motion. Since the entire power system for these elevators is inside the shaft, they do not need a separate mechanical or machine room. Plus, the controller is compact, easily fitting inside a little cabinet on the wall beside the elevator. There are two hydraulic systems: holed and holeless. Holed systems need the cylinder to go down into the ground, so they require the construction of a pit, while holeless systems do not need a pit. On average, they cost $20,000 to $50,000.

Residential Lift Cost Per Floor

The cost of installing an elevator varies depending on how tall your property is and how many floors need to be serviced by the elevator. If you have an elevator in a three-story home, it will cost more than the same model in a two-story house because more labor and parts are needed during the installation process. In general, the cost of installing an elevator goes up by about $10,000 on average for each additional story.

Labor Costs to Install a Home Lift

The majority of residential elevators are installed by the manufacturers or companies that sell them. This is because each type of elevator is unique not only to the manufacturer, but also the setting it will be installed in.

In many cases, the cost of installation is included in the total cost of the elevator itself, particularly for those elevators which are easy to install and do not require a shaft or significant construction. Installation costs can vary widely depending on the location of the elevator, the type of elevator, whether it requires a shaft, and how many floors the elevator needs to climb. Expect installation costs to start around $4,000 and go as high as $50,000 for some larger jobs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why do lift supports fail?
